This is one of the sample supplement essays for University of Chicago enrichment programs.
QUESTION:
"Since its founding, the University has been committed to the idea that a culture of rigorous inquiry requires an environment where diverse perspectives, experiences, groups of individuals, and ideas inform and stimulate intellectual exchange, challenge, and engagement." -UChicago Office of the Provost. How does your perspective, experience or background contribute to our culture of inquiry in this program? What do you hope to gain by engaging with peers from all over the U.S. or from different parts of the world? (Limit: 300 words)
“Teamwork makes the dreamwork”. Historical influences from Isaac Newton to Albert Einstein, all needed a source of advisory, an acknowledgement from fellow enthusiasts for their concept to be published and agreed worldwide.
UChicago’s commitment to a culture of inquiry is quite a statement to remember since alone we do so little and so slow. It is truly an event to gather diverse backgrounds under one roof while an opportunity to resonate with others, listen and present.
We are often told to look at things from another perspective but always end up going towards the same path, reaching the same conclusions. With people from all over US and possibly around the globe, I can look at things differently and take a different approach towards problems.
People of different cultures interact and tackle situations differently. By attending UChicago’s enrichment programs, I hope to bring ideas to the table and engage with minds like my own. I am a highly motivated individual and don’t just want to receive but give.
Throughout the years, I have honed my communication and leadership skills. I have been my class representative last year and it is safe to say I not only pushed myself but my classmates too. Me and my teammates were successful in raising a great batch of funds by organising bake sales, thanks to my ability to drive a productive team dynamic.
Moreover, I love to travel the world. Apart from tours through vacations, I have moved houses across the globe which has taught me to be adaptable, resilient and open minded. I look forward to contributing my skills and creativity to a community that values diversity and inclusivity.
