FOSDEM 2025 – My review

FOSDEM was organised over the weekend from February 1st to 3rd in Brussels, Belgium. I got a chance to attend a couple of workshops and talks. The day started with catching a train from Ghent to Brussels and a short bus ride to the venue at Universite libre de Bruxelles. I rushed toward my first workshop in the U-Block which was being conducted on the sixth floor of this building. What a flight!

In the “How to build your own application”, we were briefed on how to use certain platforms to step by step program an application. Using “MIT App Inventor” we could build workout apps, weight tracker, alarm app, drawing app and more. During the workshop we demonstrated on a “cat” to check out different sound and touch features and talked about the app in general. The second workshop was held in the same room. “Program a tiny computer” started by giving out tiny pieces of computer boards connected to our PCs, programmed using MicroBlocks (basically Scratch). I programmed a birthday musical because it was my friend's birthday that day and I was feeling a little fancy. Lol. The day ended by grabbing merch and a cookie from Mozilla and some Almalinux pens and lip balms. I took a few pictures outside the campus and grabbed a bus back!

FOSDEM 2025 was sponsored by Google, Element RedHat and more. Funding was done by Volunteering T-shirts and other FOSDEM merch.
